Hello,

I have a jet200 stock engine with varitronic and this setup was nice though a bit lean with the 20 mil carb.

I switched to a 200cc SIL stage IV tuned top end with polished transfers.

carb is a mikuni TMX30 malossi rubber mounted inlet from scootrs with casalambretta elbow and ramair filter. Ignition is a varitronic set @ 19 ° and exhaust a JL2.

Main jet: 260
pilot jet: 27,5
needle jet: 622-N9
needle 5EL68

scooter doesn't start unless i pour some fuel directly into cylinder through manifold.

If i pour some starter fluid through carb, then it starts but doesn't revv higher than 1/4 throttle then seems to flood. thick over is the only think it does.

any thoughts on what could be the cause the bike doesn't start.

thanks for your help.

Have you blown out all the jets, sounds like a blockage ... or I could be typing bollards (play's the get out of jail free card)

Yep Hungdog, all jets have been thoroughly blown so i don't think that's the problem :(

Is the fuel tap flowing enough fuel?
Is the varitronic set at 19 from start? If so move it (to something like 25 degrees from start) so that it fully retards to something like 17 degrees at full throttle (revs).
Is the tank breather blocked?
Piston up the right way?

just a few to be going on with .. :) :) :)

to soullad:

fuel tap is a fast fuel one
variotronic is an early one an set like the specs on http://www.lambretta.co.uk/downloads/va ... tting.html

that means turning the ignition anti-clockwize completely to the end of the slots.

gonna check tank breather

piston should be ok because after pourring some start pilot fluid, it revvs and i'm able to get it thick over.

thanks,

Sam

Have you got the slide needle under the plastic cable retainer sleeve?

yes, the needle sits correctly under the plastic cable retainer sleeve.

I'll check timing, varitronic wiring this weekend and get back with the results.

Tank breather is ok.
timing has been checked and changed to 21.

took the carb off and poured some petrol inside the inelt manifold. After 4 or 5 kicks the engine started.

So, does this means i have a carb problem?

I'm starting to think it's the pilot jet (27.5) that's too small. Could it be?

Thanks for your help,

S
