Schwalbe Racemans fitted on new ScootRS rims by highly reputable Uxbridge motorcyle tyre specialist, using brand new Bike-it valves. Newly-rebuilt S1 with only 275 miles on the clock. Tyres had been checked and pumped up only a few days earlier (they needed barely 1 or 2lbs top-up after months of waiting for the rebuild to be completed  ). Rode it home from work on Friday night, went into garage the next morning to find the 100/90 rear tyre had deflated almost completely.

There are no punctures that I can see. Have checked the valve and it's not rubbing against the rear hub or back of the rim. I've obviously taken the wheel off and replaced with the spare one (another ScootRS tubelss rim :? ).

Have reflated the old tyre and put 8oz of green Slime in. Re-tightened the valve core fully (it was fine before).

I'll keep checking the pressure on it over the next few days to see if it deflates. I might even put it on the rear hub of another stationary scooter as an additional test under "normal" weight.

If it's all OK in a week or so, I could be tempted to use it. But there's part of me that has lost confidence in it and I wonder if I'm just being a tight mad git. Has this happened to anyone else? Did you bother trying to save the tyre?

ive fitted loads you have to be careful the tyre bead doesnt get nicked as there a tight fit mix some washing up liquid with water and pour it round where the tyre meets the rim this will show up where the problem is you can also try to inflate it to about 50psi then drop it to required pressure this sometimes gets them to seat and stop leaking

Yes, it was lucky that. As it happens Joee, this is the one I use to ride round my 10-million acre estate.

In fact, as I was saying to me old mate Prince Charles one day, me on my S1 and him on his LDB 150 AVV with Camilla on the back, riding round your own estate and waving cheery "helloos" to our lovely servants beats going to common-as-muck rallies.

Apart from anything I need to ride 175 miles just to get off me own land before I even start officially racking up the mileage, which plays havoc with both our LCGB championship points....

Back on-topic, thanks for the tip re. washing up liquid, I'll try that tonight. And of course, I accept full responsibility for everything, including global warming.

UPDATE: nothign wrong with the rim or the valve, it's a hole in the tyre. I had to say that in the interests of fairness. That and I thought seeing as how Randall always plays fair by us we should play fair by him.

Don't use fairy liquid - it's got loads of salt in it and just kickstarts the corrosion, use tyre soap, if you go into a tyre place they'll usually give you enouigh in a tub to last a lifetime.
Stainless rims would obviously solve this problem and introduce a bit of danger into your life.
