Hi peeps...

I'm about to start buying bits for my next engine.

I was going thinking of so many different options, but was keen on having the carb on the standard side - I was going to modify my framebreather airbox to fit on a big carb

That ruled out TS1, Monza and RB's

I was thinking about the new MB kit with a 62mm crank and was pretty sold on this, but while down the arch the other night I struck gold!

I found my mates old GT200 kit! (the GT186 kit with 66mm piston) He's long gone back to New Zealand, so doesnt want it, so I've decided to use it

Question is... What crank should I get?

My first thought is to just get a 60mm crank - Thats what my mate used to use, but his bike was a bit of a seizomatic

But then I thought why not a 62mm crank? apart from cost I'm trying to think what would be a dissadvantage over a 60mm

but then I though - what if I change to an RB20 or bigger down the line? I hear the RB's dont suit long stroke cranks

My TS1 runs fantastic with a 60mm crank

Can people give their feedback on their kit / crank combo's? what kit and what stroke crank?

I'm not going down the route of an RB, so dont really care if they do run nicely with 58mm cranks. But I would like to know how a GT200 kit goes with standard stroke, if people have tried the 62mm crank with anything etc etc etc

Also on the carb front - I dont really want to use the 25mm dellorto. What other carbs have people tried? tm24? would a TM28 fit?

I believe reedspeed does a 28mm carb that will run through an air box. sorry I cant help you with the GT kit, only ever ridden one, and that was on a standard 58mm stroke.

by fitting a long stroke crank on the gtyou will need a base plate packer and you should be able to tow a caravan up mount everest,serious though this should see a vast increase in torque/power and be able to pull away easier and ride two up pulling the same gt box with no loss anywhere a small difference in jetting will have to be done ,

i run Gt 200 kit, 60mm full circle/padded evergreen crank,25mm dell, tv 175 gearing & 42mm clubman.really like this set up ,lot's of torque.you have raced me on your TS1 from bar Italia to brick Lane and there wasn't much in it. although power to weight ratio is a factor. 24mm mikuni could be a possible alternative, however you may have to modify the manifold to prevent it fouling on the silent block.
finding the kit is a result you say it was a seizomatic has it been rebored? i understand the 200 only have a couple in them.
on a series 1 i think you would find the power very useable & still feel like your riding a lambretta

Hehe I still wasted you though!

My mate seized his a few times when we were in Italy... The carb wasn't set up quite right and once he nipped it up once it just got worse and worse. I've got a new piston coming, I honed the barrel and it came through unscathed so it's a 66mm one.

I'm leaning towards a 62mm crank from camlam... But then I thought - why not put the 62 in my ts1 engine and the 60mm from that into the gt engine?

I think too much sometimes
