Starting Problems

Mi mate Danny Dog has a series 2 of which he has put a 175 cylinder and piston. The problem is it´s a bitch to get started either you have to bounce on the kickstart and on the third bounce come down with all your might or it wont turn over. Its Ok to jump start. we have tried changing the head for a new 175 aluminium cheapy but it´s still the same.

Any ideas.

My starter for one.. Dodgy ignition? Swap stator for uprated Indian electronic or a BGM ,Ducati cdi, new lead and plug and go from there....

Sounds like it-has too much compression for a start

There´s no problem with the electrics it´s just the compression is to high or something similar. Anybody under 10 stone would not be able to kick it over. It has a steel 175 cylinder (off the shelve) a 175 head and an asso piston. All three parts where bought seperately. Could it be the piston doesn´t match the cylinder and needs to be rectified.

Are you the bloke who rides up and down Magaluf on a Lambretta?
I was out there in May and got talking to Paco in the Balmoral and he said he thinks you have two Lammy's.
If it is you then the one you were on was very nice.

Does it kick over ok with the plug out? Just wondering if the piston is hitting the head :?

Dude, as I've told Danny "the Dog", the problem, I think and Mark seems to think as well, its got too much compression, the cilinder is too tight in my books.... I would get a rebore. Colin might be up to something as well with the gasket and the squish, however Danny told me that you guys tried two cylinder head gaskets, am I correct?

last time I went to Magaluf there were only 2 hotels (Hotel Jamaica and another) and one bar (Pink Elephant on the way to P. Nova.)

Mind you that was back in 1969 :shock:

If you spotted a nice Lambretta in Magalluf it was probably Danny Dog (grogui) as my bike is lets say not nice.

Jaime amigo, que tal. Yeh we tried 2 gaskets and it was much the same, I did look at the top of the cylinder and there was a good 3 or 4 mm of carbon on it so I would say there are no problems with the piston touching the head and yes it turns over fine with the plug out.

It does look funny though when you have a couple of onlookers watching you with your crash hat on jump on the kick start and it doesn,t go down and the bike nearly tips over on it´s stand. Luckily I´ve learn´t the trick but Danny does look a donkey when he tries to kick it over. It´s a lot more dignified to bump start it though.
