Yup, classic air leak symptoms. Split inlet manifold rubber? Gasket leaks?

had to fix two scoots with a similar problem, One had a helicoil fitted to one of the two exhaust studs on the side case, (the ones that hold the main body of the exhaust on) but it had been drilled too deep and gone into the crank case primary chamber. then when the Engine was built up it sucked in air. the second was a ported casing where the mag side transfere had been left very thin, which then cracked down its length, letting air in (more so when it was hot) as the heat expanded the alloy opening up the cracked transfere, just though this might help in your Quest for a smooth tick over. All the best
