I've just replaced the clutch plates on my P2. It all seems to be working fine but the clutch is quite noisy when I pull in the lever. Has something gone horribly wrong?

Do you mean noticeably noisier than before you did them?

Yes. There is a definite whirring sound when I pull the lever that wasn't there before. A mate said that his T5 does the same thing, as does my lambretta but it wasn't doing it before

Alaways difficult to diagnose on the internet so maybe worth a look inside just for piece of mind

it sounds like either worn clutch springs,warped plates or the cush drive.ive just replaced both and now got this problem rang beedspeed where got them they said even though clutch is new might have warped plates inside.................brilliant.

Its an older type one. It just took me and my luggage from Kent to Dublin and back so it can't be too bad but it definitely slipped every now and then. After a couple of minutes it seemed to bed in and was fine until the next time I changed up and down the gears. Maybe the plates aren't moving in the basket properly

Did you line up the hole in the basket with the hole on the pressure plate? You have to twist the springs slightly to do this so it doesn't seem the natural thing to do if you didn't know what the holes are for.

Do you mean the thingummy about the size of a 10p with the flat on one edge that the brass plunger presses against. That was a bugger to get to lay flat. That could be a possible problem.

No when you compress the pressure plate against the basket there is a small hole about 4mm big in both components that needs to line up. If I remember tomorrow I'll take a pic and post it.
