Over the 35 years I have had Lambrettas I have seen & used many LI Pacemaker gear boxes, both early (hollow mainshaft) & late (solid mainshaft).
In that time I've seen five of what looks like the early type mainshaft/gear sets. That are actually the same as the later type with the chunky third gear.
A mate brought a set for me to checkout for him, as he thought he had bought an early set with the weak third gear.
But the gear set were identical to the later (stronger) type except for the mainshaft being hollow.
I was told many years ago that there was a change over period from early to later wher the old style clutch bell was retained, this being the reason for the continued use of a drilled mainshaft and that broken gear sets were replaced by innocenti using all the original clutch parts from the existing engine.
So it might be worth checking the cogs on some of the earlier gear sets as you may have one of the stronger gear sets.
LI pacemaker gears. Early and late.
Well I'm using 2 sets of "the weaker" gearboxes. One in a TS1 230 and one in a Rapido 230...after 4 years now still wainting for them to break
So are these really that weak or are many of them broken because of their popularity in race-scooters?
