EXCEPT the stop light part of the rear bulb which keeps blowing (no problems with the tail light part or indeed any other bulbs)
Correct 12v 21/5Watt bulb fitted

I had a simillar prob after checking the earths i had a good look at the bulb holder (viet

) the bottom sprung loaded part with the contacts had twisted when i put a new bulb in and wasn't touching the end of the bulb tight enough plus it was a little slack in the metal socket where the bulb slides into. After a good while of fettling it work bang on. Might be worth a look

I agree with Thackers, it could be an intermittant contact, it would also be worth checking the brake light switch. Also, if it is a battery model then the stop light is fed off the DC circuit, have you checked the voltage across the battery at high revs, it shouldn't be much more than 14 volts max.

I'll try those tips over the weekend lads........
Just one thing, the filament is actually blowing rather than simply not working which indicates, to an electrical numpty like me, that the voltage is too high- is this possible as all the other filaments are OK?
Any thoughts welcome please Gents

If no other lamp is blowing, then it cannot be that the voltage is too high, so can only be down to a poor connection somewhere in it's circuit. Poor connections can cause the lamp to blow.
