Kick Start Travel

Hi Guys,

My Lambretta kick start doesn’t engage to turn the engine over until it has travelled at least half its total distance. Can I move the kick start lever on the kick shaft splines so its hard against the chain case rubber buffer to enable the kick start to engage earlier?

Depends. Is it a GP or LI style ramp inside the chaincase? If it's an LI style you can adjust the ramp so the kickstart engages sooner. Look in Sticky's manul.

And what would happen if I move the kick start round on the shaft splines to get a better kick off so the engine turns over earlier?

You may get away with it, but it's surprising how much one spline makes, and you may find the kickstart plunger engaging with first gear. You can but try. Also make sure that the shim on the outside of the kickstart is keeping you kickstart shaft right up against the chaincase. Different thicknesses available.
