UK machine with paperwork, been offered one, not seen it yet though.

What would one be worth approx?

Try riding it first before you even think of buying it. I always fancied one of the early models until I had a ride of John Mann's model D (I think) on the round the coast charity ride. I no longer have that desire.

Its an investment oportunity Martin, not for me to ride.......unless i 'low rider' chop it!! lol

Just got a pic and description sent to me, a few variables on teh original info that i was told......its an LD 125 in red, pale blue and cream, Aquila Continental saddle, luggage rack, spare wheel, with the original registration book showing date of registration as March 1952. I wouldnt say it was mint either! lol

This LD? is a bit of an oddity, can you get him to check a couple of things. Firstly, port hole panels and teleflex gears would indicate a French 125 LD some times termed a Mk4.

However, things that counter act this are. Seats, handle bars, horn casting, legshield badge all look very LC. It is also missing the handle bar cowl if it were a French LD and the panel shape is more LC than French LD.

Fuel filler cap was the same side for both LC and French LD (which now means this is definately NOT an run of the mill LD!). As I remember French LD's did not have a horn in the horn casting (it was mounted in the headset cowl like the Mk3 LD's). Nice foot board extensions by the way.

Things that would put it beyond doubt, LC has a carb flap on the R/H panel (French LD not), French LD has plastic legshield floor runners, LC were made of pressed alloy. A picture of the engine would easily kill it, LC has a very obvious knuckle articulation just forward of the rear axel and the engine is rigid in the frame. All LD's were swing arm and tortion bar.

Personally, my money is on LC, and this makes it pretty rare. What's it worth? Well they are a F***ing knight mare to work on and the knuckle joint in the transmission has to be the worst bit ever. Things that are going good for it are it looks unmolested and that is a very very very good thing with LC and LD of engines. If you like it and could pick it up and sit on it for 700 quid that would be good. They'll never be appreciated or as usable as all the later engines and frames but it all depends what floats your boat.

My honest opinion would be to carefully clean and service it then pop it back together again. A full restoration would not give you any return of investment and ultimately in years to come it will be more valuble as is than repainted.

i turned one down last year for 700 was nice but the kickstart was fcuk i spoke to a few peeps and they said parts were hardish to get and only a few people can work on them/////////// someone bought it and stuck a typhoon 125 auto engine in it and did some mods on the front suspession with a disc brake it looks and goes well now
