Just to confirm, I've sprung a leak and I found this pool of petrol sitting around the seam of the tank. Everywhere above the seam on the tank is dry. There's a fair bit leaking down the inside of the casing.

I take it the seams gave way somewhere?

The one I've just fitted has a small leak in the seam on the left hand corner |(looking at you pic). It's only a slight seep but then I havn't filled it right up yet. I intend to seal it from the outside using Plastic Metal or JB Weld. I used some on my car 18 years ago and it hasn't leaked since

Getting worse. Nice pool of petrol now.

...that your cap is venting properly? I have seen this happen to tanks when the vent hole in the cap is plugged up with gunk. Pressure builds up and it needs somewhere to go. That said, if the vent hole in the cap is the problem, your tank may still not leak at the seam if you fix the venting problem. I think that the added pressure causes the seepage, not the static pressure of the liquid.

it took 2 weeks for my bargain vietmamese tank to do this, after i painted it as well, i now have SSP tanks, no seam, no probs

I woke up to the smell of petrol. Went out to inspect and it's everywhere.

Walking back up the street and I smell petrol from halfway down the street. I'm going to be mr popular with the neighbours.

Suppose I'm lucky the tank lasted about 5-6 months.

Going to drain and clean and petseal it.

Think mine 's going the same way mate and the chrome tank cap was definately not vented so worth a check.I'm not too sure on petseal, I did a rusty tank a year or two ago and it seems to have washed off.Can you get yours welded it would probably be better
