Which tire?

I need to replace the Michelin S1's on my GP200 TS1 230. I may do only one long distance ride this summer, maybe 500 - 800 km each way. Most of the riding will be blasting around the city roads, mostly dual carriageways and some nice twisty lake and riverside roads.

I'm looking at the Heidenau K61 and the Schwalbe Raceman and can't decide for myself. I prefer a good and sticky tyre but I understand the Raceman has more Silica so is better in the wet, not that the weather here is as bad as the Ireland or the UK. We do get some rain but plenty of warm sunny days. :-)

I have a wide rim on the back and expect to run 100/90/10.

If you've run on either of these tyres, chime in with your thoughts. Cheers!

GPK,

I have the Schwalbe Paceman's fitted (wide rim on rear) and like you do not do a huge mileage. They warm up nicely and are seriously grippy, I have no issues with them and no complaints. In fact they lead me to look at other issues like ground clearance as my JL grounds out both sides when keeled over, but the tyres stay put. Like them so much I've already got a new set waiting to be fitted when these ones wear out.

highly recommended

Thank you ricalnic. You said you're running the Paceman? Isn't that their racing tyre? How are they in the wet? Cheers!

Anybody tried the Heidenau K61? Or the Schwalbe Raceman?

Racemans front and rear 100/90, rear wide, front standard, warm up very quickly and are very sticky indeed, I personally wouldnt chose anything else now..after a ride the tyres are very warm so they cetainly work well and gives me great confidence through corners even on a lammy...mates just got the white wall weathermans and they look the dangles... ;)

i have a set of both k61's and racemans. both very grippy. k61's probably wear down faster and not many stockists in the uk since scwalbe hit these shores. racemans are speed rated to 93 mph. :baddevil:

I have the racemens and they are top dollar. Good grip with the larger tyre on the back, good in the wet. Not sure about the pacemens there isnt a lot of tread on those babies... :?

Got about 1600 miles out of the back and the front is good for another 1000... :D

Pacemans in the rain, well, no complaints, but then I do slacken off and head for home.

I forgot to add that I have a set of K61's in storage where I'll be living next year. I was waiting for my S1's to wear down before I moved but I didn't expect to be away for so long. I've heard that the Racemans are good in the wet due to the Silica in the tyre compound. How about the K61's? How are these in the wet? If I do one long ride this year there's a chance that it might rain.
