It can spriral out of control.
But, if you get the whole engine built by the same person, rather than a mishmash of parts, it's more likely to only cost you once, rather than another 350 quid (plus parts) for a rebuild six months down the road when something has broken.
A little bit more cash up front is likely to save you a lot of cash later.

I understand that there are so many variations as there qre so many options and different levels you can push your scooter to. But if you are spending 1,800 on an engine, it isnt a million miles away from the super monza price?

the single biggest point of the super monza is every part is intended to work with the other ...instead of a pick and mix situation we currently have ...which path you chose is up to you

Sure thing, tell them what gearing you wanna run and pipe you want to use and they can do it accordingly rather than bolt a kit on and then have to drop gearing or buy another pipe.

Going back a few years ago to that article/interview in Scootering that Charlie/Charly did he said something along the lines quoted to give the option of a tested, reliable good solid kit including exhaust, carb etc. A total solution to someone that wants a fast go anywhere 2 stroke touring Lambretta. Still such a hard thing to truely get my head around 'touring and 2 stroke'

I think we do have to look at this kit completely differently from TS1's etc.
As i have said before, tuning a TS1 or something similar to 30bhp would probably give a totally different power spread, be very peaky and have a narrow power band.
No doubt someone will come along and tell me i'm talking out of my backside
Anyway this motor seems to be based on touring and torque which makes it completely different to the TS and RB.
Yes we like to run them on JL3 pipes and other low revving pipes to up the gearing and tame them a bit but if you were a perfectionist you could say that the barrell kits do not suit low revving pipes etc.
Thats why people like MB have been taking a small amount off the base of the barrell on TS1's for a long time to alter port timings to tame them a bit. They were designed to be very revvy kits!
So in short i think it will be a completely different beast to what we have seen before.

Oz. By handbuilt I mean each piece (and there are a lot in this pipe) is hand cut... its not machine welded or tigged for speed of production or to keep down cost but gas welded and stress relieved. You yourself work in motorsport and would understand what I meant by this. Its a quality bit of kit and you know how much something like this would cost. For example... How much did your custom pm ts vespa pipe cost?

No,not talking out of backside but very few have filled TS barrels with weld and start again so in effect make a new barrel. Its kin time consuming and expensive but it works. Not sure if Webbo did any but Saxelby did a couple. There was a guy called Matty who posted the article up on the lcgb site (i think) a while ago and it pulled some stupidly high gearing so it must have produced massive torque. To get that done now would be foooking expensive

.Sure it was sprinted up the 1/4 in the 14`s though.
Im sure Taffs used to machine the base too but wonder how that works as mine is an old TS200 but does have big transfer timing but i did try a JL4 the weekend and it still pulled it with 4.8 which did surprise me as thought id have to go down on front sprocket,id av kept it on if it wasnt borrowed.

Pipe (hand built, 29 sections) was about a grand including ceramic coating and titanium end can, same for the Rotax.
I know good stuff costs.
This thread, and all the 'Super Monza' threads have been very entertaining.
Hand built this, hand modified that, slagging off, arse kissing, cheap, expensive, rumours, hearsay...
I for one, will be sad when it is available on the open market, and all this comes to an end.
Now the TS is old hat, I wouldn't mind bolting a SM onto this T5 casing I've got laying about, as your the 'inside man' Tone, can you sort me a cylinder??
