the long first gear is ok for solo racers, this would be the the advantage of a 5 speed ,the two up rider can use first gear, the solo racer can set off in second for a long start gear and then close ratios for racing and keeping the motor in the power band.
i have tinno sacchi 5 speed this is quite a good box although i darn,t abuse it ,i had a rospeed box when i was a lad and that spit a tooth of and came through the case, not a good moment.
five speed box
10-12-15-19-21
50-42-39-35-33
i worked out the gears to be stock lambretta items
1.gp200 italian
2.gp200 italian
3.gp200 italian
4.gp150 italian
5.sx200 italian
that gear box plays a very important part on the small single cylinder engine and races are won on the correct selection not just power ,the use of the origional gears on a square or hexagonal tree would enable us to use the old lambretta gear patterns to make a box up to suit your surcumstances.
a four speed box is not going to be that much better than its origional counterpart other than it will be stronger,
