No one answered me when I quoted from the MB site. Surely this is a bad thing

The Standard Rapido has cast the flange upside down!
You can turn the gasket around but this doesn't cure the problem with a standard design U bend.
To make matters worse the two exhaust studs are offset a little more towards the exhaust.
This is a total nightmare to line up, tune or grind.
The only cure is to cut off the flange and re jig up the exhaust!
Hassle to say the least.

no you dont, all you do is dremmel the exhaust flange so that the 1mm over lap does not overlap. its no wors than any other matching. even i can do that :shock:

They must have sorted it as it used to be REALLY bad - a lot more than 1mm.

i read into marks comments that he intends to give me a rt220 kit and crank for free as compensation for not warning me about the mugello.

i accept.....to save embarrassment :roll:

Well Ian, nice one, but I am quite in luv with the SR190 kit... Good is an understatement!!!!! I get parts from you boys for this kit anyway and also is a kit which MB participated in, so there is something from MB in that kit as well. I also beleive that everybody has a right to a living, so I give jobs to a tuner and to the dealers. The SR190kit is a superb kit if is adjusted propperly and propper chamfering modifications are done. IMHO.

Not many of you know that I did the original pattern and development
work for the SR cylinder. When the kits arrived it was nothing like
the quality promised. MBD have done over 200 kits, but as most were
tuned by myself it got to be a bit of a bind. With the correct
fettling, tuning work and with the right piston it is a very good kit
even with a non PC iron liner. As time has gone by even the highly
tuned ones have proved to be very reliable. We stopped selling the
kits after lots of trouble with the original piston with rings. We
moved to other pistons and conversions but were all expensive and time
consuming. Lots of the original ideas and more have gone into our new
Race-Tour cylinder kit.

So, from reading the last umpteen pages it seems that lots of people rate the Rapido classic 200 as a good touring engine. Just how much better than a mildly tuned indian barrel with a cut piston is it likely to be?

How much better is it with a 60mm crank? What extra work and components is required to make it all fit and run?

mugello because ive always wanted to work in a foundery and be covered in waste metal. bought from a dealer with additional tuning then im sure they are good kits but it takes you back to the rt kit which you fit the same day and will work.

what were they thinking with the mugello :roll:

as i have got it im going to get the b@5t@rd thing to work. i have a timing wheel and a dremmel......i just need a tuner :oops:
Cezeta . . . calm down, all you need to get done is raise the inlet timing to 152/3 degrees, raise the exhaust by 1mm and match everything and it'll be excellent. Having said that . . unless you can do that yourself the RT kit is by far the best out of the box. The classic Rapido is usually no better than a std indian barrel, and the Casa may look good but power wise its a bust.
