It's not the shifter, it's the selector yoke. The ends of it are hitting the inside of the case when selecting 5th gear. If you were to pull your gear box you'll see at least 1 if not 2 small lines from the yoke hitting the case.

Not from my experience of the product and poor customer support and service from the supplier.

I had this problem but only when I was gripping the gear change and probably slightly pulling on it whilst riding. Cured immediately by fitting one of the larger MB brass gear change wheel in the headset.

I'd say you were lucky. Mine lasted less than 30 very careful miles. It was replaced without quibble to be fair though. It's still on my mind every time ride it though. I'm gong to replace it with a SIL 200 box though. Almost £800 I'll never see back.

I'd probably agree with you if mine didn't go bang. The few miles I got out of it were great.

No complaints from me so far. It had already done about 300 miles when I bought it, I've done 70 miles so far running in this GT186, and the beauty of the 5-speed is that you can allow a tinsy winsy bit more speed as the revs are lower. Well that's my theory.
