Vespa Winter Project

Finished most of the body work. I probably did not need to weld the door, in fact I wish I hadn't. Going to cost me £!20 or so. Still waiting on the drop bars which will take another 2 weeks to arrive, so I will run around on the scooter and run in the new piston and crank. Will also use this time to try and work out how to get the lights working properly. The come on no problem but the burn out one of the wires. I have done all the continuity tests on the wires and checked the earth of the battery, regulator, light and CDI unit, there all fine. i just cant work out why this wire is burning out. I have replaced it with another wire and still the same.

I think I've got lights and a rear brake light, although the horn and pilot light don't work. I can live with that, at the moment.

I have not had a chance to really open up the throttle, so performance wise I won't know for a while. Let down by a well known scooter shop over the Drop Bars. I have also got to run the engine in, and all the relevant paper work needed in the UK. I am hoping for the end of April and of course half decent weather. I think it's 0 degrees in Glasgow at the moment.

Did you have the chance to test the exhaust yet?

Yes, the exhaust is great. It is a bit loud at times but has a great sound.

As I didn't get the required finish on this project last year I have decided to do it properly this time around. The clear coat finish had a slight green tinge to it and I have managed to find a clear powder that will give the finish I am looking for. I also plan to add a little more colour and build a better engine, the side panels will be going and replaced with standard panels.

Just mocking up the revised project from last year. Found a new clear powder that more or less will have no colour and the scooter should look like as it does now. Unsure about the auxiliary petrol tank, looks a bit like an orange.
The wheel rims will be matt black as will the hub. The fork link and housing will be clear powder, front shock, spring and forks matt black.

Starting to get a couple of bits and pieces back from suppliers and engineers. The GS disc conversion had to be stripped and rebuilt by an engineer, as it had seized and collapsed on its first run, this was a fault by the manufacturer. Either the bearing or the axle was fitted incorrectly. Still got a long way to go before i get a rolling scooter and the engine built.
