Actually Churchill was asked to approve nuclear weapon developement in 1941.
By 1942 British scientists were considered much more advanced in the project than the Americans and were sent to the USA to advance their project.
Being Typically American they failed to acknowledge this in later years.

One of the Germans biggest failing was that they couldn't believe any other nation was more advanced than themselves. The Battle of Britain was largely won because they bombed our airfields instead of our radar stations.

likewise;if Piaggio had'nt put the T5 on the back burner and carried on developing it in higher cc's they would have had a vastly superior 125 range to anything on the road from other makers. as it happened Piaggio started to lose the small capacity sales war to ever faster twist and go's, ultimately chinese scooters will win the conflict in the end and even clever technology from the italians won't persuade the increasingly skint commuters to pay for their scooters.invasion is certain. :ugeek:

It is interesting to think if things had been different, and i'm not being disrespectful to those who have lost there lives in any wars, but look at the f@@king state of our country and the world today
I'd rather be a free man in my grave.

I like your point Alcoholic maniac, italian scooters are definitely built with style in mind, cool as fook, reliability was a long way down on there agenda, but the Jap equivalent is the other way round, perfect reliability but style is so low on there agenda, why piaggio took there eye off the ball in the late 70's early 80's is beyond me, sales must have been good back then :geek:

Everything comes down to proper R & D and investment in the end. Once the Americans entered the war it was all over bar the shooting. They were able to manufacture huge quantities of high quality equipment with impunity and you can't fight that. It's what the Japanese did with their bikes and similarly the Chinese are doing now. Piaggio made tactical errors. It's just as well nobody is shooting at them.

I have a real problem with the Yanks in WW2, they came into it very late, only due to Germany declaring war on them, thay are supposed to be our allies and yet we have only just finished paying the debt for there help, :wtf: and yet we asked for there help in the Falklands and they told us to do one, :wtf: wander what if any deal was done behind closed doors with Iraq twice and now Afghanistan :?

Have to disagree a bit there. Once Hitler invaded Russia it was all over bar the shooting.
Without the Russians the Germans would have still eventually lost but they would have been able to sue for peace terms. Things could have been very different now because Hitler would have quite possibly lived to fight another day.

One of Germany's top fighter aces Adolf Galland was asked by Herman Goring what he needed to win the BOB and he replied ' a squadron of Spitfires' says it all to me. Nice scoot BTW.
