It isn't like that at all, of that I can assure you. It has it's faults, sure, but I have made some good friends in the LCGB.
I don't think anyone is saying that all members of the LCGB are in a massive clique, quite the opposite, I'm sure most members of the LCGB are really great people. Whenever I hear criticism of the LCGB it is nearly always directed at committee level, or those who gravitate towards them, not the general membership.

I never understand the whole LCGB debate.
Join if it’s for you.
Don’t if it’s not.
End of debate

The problem I can remember is that the forum was 'open' and as such members and non members alike used it.
Then there were comments made and some questions asked that required 'moderators' to get involved and 'censor' or delete or lock posts which they deemed improper.
That was ok to start with and then some posters were moderated and some were not .... this then led to more complaints and even more moderation of the complainers.
Then the complainers complained about the moderation being unfair and some I believe were the banned.
The moderators then started complaining themselves about having to do so much moderating and threatened to walk.
It was then that the decision was made to change to members only.
It was a good forum with lots of good info and I used it a lot for many years, but it wasn't worth joining LCGB for (imo)
Other forums thrived as a result which had been previously mentioned and in my opinion the LCGB members now have a poor forum which they pay for and the non members that moved home back then have created a good one which the LCGB members use free of charge .....
As it stands, I can only see one good reason to join LCGB and that's to get the discount on my insurance

.... but I'm guessing that I can get the same discount being part of BLOA for less money

For you maybe, but there are far more benefits than just discounts on insurance. Subsidised LCGB rallies, for example on one last year for the £20 ticket price you got 2 nights camping, 2 evening meals, 2 breakfasts, a t-shirt, badge, sticker and legshield banner, that one rally alone was worth the membership fee. Then there are the JetSet magazines, a gift at Christmas which is normally something useful and of the course the Euro Lambretta rally. So there are plenty of benefits but it's down to the individual on how much of those they use and if it actually works for them. You really can't please all of the people all of the time, we are all different and want/expect different things so join the club that suits you best or don't join a club at all, scooterists really do seem to be the worst for labelling each other and mocking those that are different to themselves.
As for clique, I've only been attending LCGB rallies for the past 3 or 4 years and have found the members and committee members I have met to be a very friendly bunch, many go out of their way to help others. I don't know the history but it feels to me that many of the issues are at a personal level, you get that in clubs with only a handful of members so a club the size of the LCGB it's pretty inevitable.
This post comes across as very pro LCGB so apologies if that offends anyone, but that's probably because I personally haven't had any issues and think that I get great value for the membership fee.

No one's mentioned that the LCGB are the recognised club to issue letters of authenticity so you can get your pride and joy registered. The Vespa Club do a similar thing for Vespas. You have to join the club to get a letter of authenticity.
I don't know if BLOA do this, but the club does offer more than a forum.
As an aside, I bought an old style BLOA sticker for my Li back in the 90s from... the LCGB. I bet they don't stock those any more!

I've always used Pete as well (for dating and valuation). The £10 the lcgb charge is members rate, it's £20 for non members I believe.

The LCGB forum was set up with the idea of being a "point of information" site and not a general banter site, plenty of those available elsewhere if that's what you want. As such it would have needed very little or no moderation, but people don't stick to the rules, moderators get involved, etc. Nobody wants to do the moderation, you could spend every night going through every post on top of working full time. I'm sure they came close to shutting it down completely more than once.
I completely agree with everything Burnside said above ..... don't like it? Move on.
