Did anyone importing from eu countries have to pay vat after filling in nova

You don't have to importing from the EU but was asked to once.

I decided to get cute on one NOVA application and do it properly with a sales receipt.

System said "that's £40 VAT please".

I challenged it pointing out it was purchased in the EU from a private citizen.

They replied back "no VAT due".
Did you have to do that?

Cheers John, I've asked them twice and got two different answers, each time was on the phone 30 mins and got transferred 2-3 times.

The way I see it is that all of the EU area is classed as"one country" and you dont have to pay VAT twice for the same vehicle in the same country.VAT,or purchase tax,or whatever it was called,was paid when the vehicle was new.
