A bit more done.

After seing pics over on the luna forum of cases welded up and mine is missing a bit, I decided to give it a good clean so I can check for cracks.

Half a tonne of sweedish farmyard on this...smelt like poo too..



Looks like it has had contact with the ground at one point in its life, but its also been seald off ok.

Maybe a bit crude but the points and flywheel don`t show any sign of a realy hard life.



Otherwise the case has lost the upper exhaust mounting hole but all other threads and bolts are in good nic.

Oh right, so there is actualy quite a bit of stuff in there... wonderd why it was so bleedin heavy!

Yeah, mine was just too rusty, it was never going to last.

There are other options - Chiselspeed and Jollymoto do make replacement pipes but they look nothing like the original. I believe they also have different characteristics too.

The only screws holding it are the four you mention. And yes the are 2 rubber washers on the 2 lower ones. Ive seen rubber washers glued on some unrestored scooters so could be actual glue too.

I think if I wanted to save paintwork I would tape the main frame but I dont think you will get it off without a little force.

No I am not from Norway but Germany.

Finally got the centre beam loose but don`t get centre beam over the steering lock (late type Steering lock with bands). The steering lock protrudes about 1 cm from the centre beam.
Is there a trick to get the centre beam over the lock ??

You just have to splay the beam to clear the lock.

Ahh... I now understand why I had the lui type throttle.

My handlebar has a groove from wear so the original type throttle housing sits loose on the handlebar.

So I either have to weld up the groove, or dremmel a groove for the lui type.

This may be a very silly question but how do I fit the throttle cable? And does the J range woodruff key fit my casa lui crank?

The groove is for the pinch bolt to hold the housing tight and the keys are the same as a J range. The cable inner passes thru the brass elbow and housing then hooked thru the sliding worm then hooked on the carb arm.

Thats the problem, the groove is too big so the pinchbolt doesnt do its job and the housing has quite a bit of freeplay up and down. And now orderd a J range woodruff key, thanx for confirming that for me.

What do you fit on the throttle (handlebar end) ? Is there a special nipple?

Anyway, I used 3 hours to take off the handlebar. All four hex bolts were rusted on the top so I cut a groove in them and used an impact driver to get them out.



Going to weld it annd make a new groove tomorow.

To my club mates my luna has been called 50 shades of orange. The reason is because it has been brushed in the past with a hundred diferent shades of orange to cover up rust and rub marks where the primer has started to show.

On the off chance I used some aceton and a scotchpad on the back of the tank to see what was lurking under one of the paintbrush marks and its the stuff of dreams.



So I ended up rubbing the whole tank and it looks great. So I started on some other areas to have a look ...



Hmm... I would rather have original patina than 50 shades of orange.. Here on the main frame under the tank..



It was quite easy to remove so it looks like I`m going for a full rustoration job. The forks have been whipped out because I am going to fit new link bushes, springs and buffers, so Ill give the whole scoot the same treatment while I wait for (even more) parts.

I`m also trying to sort out some way of fitting my numberplate tidely. Lui`s don`t have propper brackets ( they didn`t need to register the sweedish luna`s ) and I`m in two minds wether to fit a Vega light numberplate bracket. I think it may look a little too shiney with a repro jobbie. My rear light is the original one to the scoot but its been gutted at one point and converted to led but its not the original lens thats on there because the screwholes are stripped.
