^... if you were buying it just for the bling factor then in would be cheaper to just buy the gear lever housing, which is actually the only thing that visually suggests that you've got a 5-speed fitted. It's not like anyone is counting shifts as you ride past them.

Cheaper still, for £25 (each) I'd be more than happy to sell on the RLC Cyclone stickers that came with my gearbox so that anyone could 'bling up' their machine.... for a fraction of the price of the gearbox purchase

PS - I remember talking to a well respected UK tuner about how they were getting on with the RB kit when it first came out and they said that the close 3rd to 4th SIL gearbox was a big advantage for staying in the revs/power for shifting into top, whereas other boxes could cause it to struggle to bridge the shift. If you start to think of gearing in such a manner then the benefits of getting your ratio rises right from 1st to 5th, without having a big gap somewhere (as all of the 4-speeds have, even if it is starting with an extremely long first) starts to look very nice. You can only say so much on a forum to get a message across, then it becomes a case of trying it for yourself. I'd encourage anyone to make the effort and try one of the demonstrators available, then you will understand what the 'hype' is about.

Quite right about the Indian Gp 200 gear box Adam, I tried the all singing li150 in my rb, utter pants had to cane it in third to have a chance in fourth, the Indian box is great for going from fourth to third as well u don't have to wait ages for the revs to drop, to allow a quick over taking.

On this note I have a used sil Indian gp200 box for sale came out of my rb which has now got the cyclone fitted

Fitted, Tested , LOVE it......my SX200 has been transformed,
Its fast , smooth and is topping out at 71/72mph....GPS test
to be done later this week proper.....my scoot is a 1966 stock
SX200, 20m carb, stock exhaust and now its behaving as though
its swallowed a couple Viagra pills Very Impressive Kit.
I have one on a TS1 in the UK , but to be honest I think its more
impressive on my stock SX200. I now need to rethink the
braking system...... G.

I'm still unsure. I can see the benefits if your current set up is too peaky and falling out of the power is a problem. However if you already have enough torque/correct gearing for your riding style I'm not sure you'd be gaining anything? I suppose I'd need to try one first before I'm (& the wife!) convinced.
One thing though, there must be a few revvy pipes hanging up in garages that could come out of retirement!

And a lot of badly tuned barrels too with massive exhaust ports.

So the way I see it. Keeping the engine on the boil your generating more speed quicker, therefore optomising the true perform of an engine and making some set ups quicker than using the 4 gears?

As I understand it......

the engine isn't producing more power, but having 5 gears gives the set up 5 powerbands to use. Therefore its "on power" 20% quicker in each gear (obviously dependant on the ratios in the new box) than a standard 4 speed box which results in quicker acceleration using the same power as before on 4 cogs............
