Powder coating is probably a safer bet.

ducksta wrote:totaly agree with the above you get some great finishes as well, only prob sometimes is spraying the horn casting and headset top to match.
why wouldnt you powdercoat them at the same time?
if you dont then just get it coated to a RAL number and paint accordingly

I suppose in the end it's all relative isn't it? You can get rust on a nice new paint job as well as poorly done powder coat.

My question is what is the lifespan of powder coat....not is paint better than powder.
I seem to remember in the past car manufacturers giving 7 years warranty on paint, rusting from inside out.
The powder may have been applied incorrectly I don't know.
It has lasted 10 years.
On my scooter the lifespan was 10 years.

I regularly shot blast scooters and can confirm powder coat is bloody hard to shift. Paint is relatively easy but powder coat is a different challenge. I know powder coat primers can be used, but this is expensive, although the quality and longevity is greatly improved. In general most powder coaters will give one coat and the quality and toughness is better than paint, but a quality paint job will beat an inferior powder coat.
Regards powder coating plastic (horncasting, headset top)..... not really viable as the powder coated parts are put in a very hot oven which may melt or warp the plastic. Likewise filler can't be powder coated for the same reasons.

guppys pannals where full of filler Mick, and they came out ok, think its luck of the draw with any filling agents

You can put the powder coat in the oven at a lower temp' but there's no guarantee as to the outcome. the powder coat won't adhere quite as well. If you know the risks and decide to take the chance then fair enough.
