Good point Ric, I think you may be right ;-) and yes the shiny stuff is zinc, they really did look like shite before plating!

I got a call this morning to have a look at some repairs already done, footboard welded and legshields cut 'n' shut...

These are the worst parts, and some great progress has been made already, these guys seem to have some appreciation of what a restoration involves, they have done some real old cars and the guy that's done this works on restoring and modifying his own Beetles.
Fast too, and I like that :D

Hi Glenn, yes they'll be painting the main colours, but I hope to add some airbrushing to it afterwards.
I need to drop off the floor runner channels for redrilling, the legshields then need some beating and some splits and holes welding up, and the same for the footboards. They're matching all the edges and shut lines too, which is nice. The other panelwork you can see there belongs to a guy that pops in and does a bit of work there from time to time, he's a real anorak, which is really good, he brought in the other legshields to help compare, although they are Italian, so not quite the same, but it all helps with bringing mine back to shape.

some very very very nice work mike. I love seeing the progress in here. The welding on the right hand side pannel is normal. Note that there are several series III components such as the airscoop and airbox. You probably have noted that the airbox has a cut on the righthand side (when its fitted) so to fit over the petrol tank.

Best,

J.

The dry build's coming along nicely, just sorting the legshield toolbox, then it's a full bodywork build with rubbers, runners etc.
Just got some shiny bits back...

TBH the chrome plating is okay, but not brilliant, you'll notice the grille'is missing, that's 'cos it was s**t and won't be used, sonlooking for a good condition original, anyone?
