Since yr2000 i've ridden only on Airstops. In that time i've had two punctures (both rear thankfully) In both cases the tyre deflated slowly, which gave me time to come to a halt safely.
As i understand it, Airstops when punctured are intended to slow deflate rather than split. This of course is far from an exact science, but has worked for me.
I've never had any bother fitting them and find the angled tubes clear my fork link bolts easily. However i do intentionally fit the link bolts through from the inside, so any excess bolt length is on the outside. The purists will recoil in horror, but it's a safety issue!
Finally, i looked at a friends tyre. It had a slow... i mean slow. It could take a month to deflate. When i removed the inner...it was an Airstop. I put it in water and sqeezed until i was knackered and could just create a small bubble. (in the inner, not my bottom)
Fixed him up with a replacement Airstop. The original i inflated to 30psi and hung it up in the garage. Six months later it hadn't deflated at all (obviously it hadn't been under riding stress) I put it in water again........no leak.....none. The chuffin' thing had healed up. Still binned it though!
