thanks colin i will get this sorted . in an ideal world it would charge at tickover but i think if i can get it charging at 2000rpm with std lights then thats perfect ,. hopefully they will have it back by wed .

This is a typical test circuit for generators and dynamos.
with this circuit you can determine the current that can be delivered at any rpm, before the voltage begins to fall to a level at which the battery can no longer be charged.

after extensive testing with cs engineering ,west country windings, byron and me ,the best option we came up with for a full dc lighting system to run 115 watts was:
1200rpm -5.2 amps
1500rpm -4,8 amps
2200rpm -2.7 amps
3000rpm -0.5 amps
3500rpm 0.0 amps
then it charges with the standard 1.8 amps all the way to 8000rpm
this is with 115w of lights on all the time
with just your std lights on =70w
at tickover it is pulling -3.0 amps then it starts to charge the battery (0.1 amps) at 2500rpm
this means its charging the battery as well as powering 115w of lights at about 33mph in fourth, obviously charging at a lot lower speeds in 2nd and 3rd.
will find out full price of a stator rebuild /rewire on monday inc new italian pick up and rewound lt coil to give brighter spark.
they will do just lighting /charging coils iof required and is normally same day turn around (my experience)
here are the contact details

cant praise them enough for their help in this project

yeah, they were really helpful, I imagine they will get the new business that they deserve, olly was even contemplating it...

Good work guys

It now looks like we have decent electrics and ignition for our pride &joy, well done.
