So given that most folk max out their port widths to within a mm of what the rings can handle surely the more CC's you add the more inefficient the top end becomes, despite it becoming more powerful?
Is this why Charlie E settled for 205 cc - a compromise over power / efficiency? Or did he just design such an improved exhaust system to overcome the lack of CC's?
I understand he comes from an automotive background but I have always been interested as to how a relative newcomer to scooters has achieved so much so quickly.
The 205cc is withing the group 4 rules so thats what he worked to. Charlie actually has been in business and has tuned race bikes (not necessarily just scooters) for around 14 years. Most of his stuff is road race /motocross yamahas, ktms etc. His approach is very different to any other tuner I've ever met and known. His work is about harmony, not buy this kit and that pipe with that carb. Everything works together, designed together.
Tony, I just wondered if he deliberately chose GP 4 based on port efficiencies etc or simply shrewd business planning.
Other tuners offer a complete package, I often hear the phrases "flowed and matched" "one-off designed exhausts" then dyno'd to suit etc etc etc but none of them consistently beat GP 6 machines on a 205 cc'd engine.
I think what he has achieved is amazing and guess I just want to apply what he knows to my road bike

When i first read your post I totally misunderstood what you wrote!!
He has done well. Knows his stuff. Srp are the only people who have really challenged Charley over the last few years. You can see an onboard Stuarts bike at Cadwell on this forum. They both beat the rb250 group 6 bike. But that grp6 is getting quicker and when Guy's is on form he flys too. Ralph does when he comes out as well.
There is currently no other 'business' tuner at the front at the moment in the geared class.
