This would be a good tool... Make one that works for putting it back in as well and I will buy one off you... At the moment I do as Supereibar says and use a socket to remove the bearing then press a new one in using a vice with a block of wood and an old bearing ground down (outer track) to push it back in... A tool that could extract and re fit the bearing would be good...

Hmmmm... I use a drift as well to fit it in. Why the complication of a vice and a block of wood? Just Hit the bearing on the outer track and you are on the safe side...

Why not?? As I have a vice and a very nice block of wood, and as I never got around to welding a handle (To hit) to the modified bearing track the vice seemed a good idea, and it goes in all squared up in seconds...

Yes, wooden block with a cut out vice and ground down bearing track... Was thinking of using two tube sizes and a bolt with washers but never got round to making it, no longer have access to a machine shop, so now I am stuck with the wood and the vice...

theres a bit of lathe work i need doing if your interested david. its to do with a rear disc setup. ive got a ally boss that the disc fits onto and on the back of the boss theres a 2mm raised ring .what i need doing is a 2mm groove cutting into a rear hub to match the boss so it all runs true . i thought the way to do would be to bolt the hub to a layshaft and put the layshaft in the lathe and hope it spins true ish

little drift to knock out the 6305 bearing from scrap bit of metal

rod locates into a 13mm hole 15mm deep on side you cant see

drift sits on inner track of bearing, doesnt interfer with the case

will do same for 6004 bearing and use same rod

Mates rear disk hub completely snapped off on way to Wicksteed parts fair last weekend. He had his Mrs pillion and riding along normally when suddenly he heard an almighty crack. The disk centre was still left insitu but the remainder of the hub / rim was wedged up inside the frame. Luckily it dumped them onto the verge but badly shaken n bruised.
Think carefully before you make any modifications, thats all...........
