Well, it would have been the weaker LI crank anyway. Most people fit GP as a matter of course.

Oh! So a GP crank is a straight swap? Let me have a look around what's involved.

Not exactly. Depending on your plans for it. You'd need a TV rod and then there's the flywheel as well. That would have to be changed. Most people would upgrade to electronic at this point.

hhmmm i looked at prices of a GP crank with a 116mm rod and well, im not really prepared to pay £300 and upwards.

I am not going to tune the engine and will fit a slightly lighter flywheel as part of a 12v conversion so a MAZZUCCHELLI TV crank should do fine.

Unless someone knows of different prices then i'm all ears ! :P

If you're staying with a standard TV 175 top end then a standard TV crank should be fine, however, you should be considering a change to GP if you're converting to a bigger cc or thinking of fitting a kit.

If you do decide to go GP 116 rod then you should be able to get one much cheaper than that. I've previously had Mec GP webs with 116mm rod from Cambridge Lambretta for the same price (or very similar) as the standard GP 107mm crank. I've no doubt that AF would fit you a 116mm rod to a SIL GP crank (still some of the best webs available, hence used to resolve twisting issues on TS1s and RBs when more expensive webs couldn't cope!).

You should also be trying AF for replacement rings as they stock a massive quantity of rings for various pistons, supplying me with old odd size rings in the past. NB: You will need to tell AF (or other) how wide your rings are too as they were produced in different widths during manufacture of 'standard' pistons.

All the best with this revamp... a very nice machine.

The above gives you an indication of what sort of money you should be paying from AF if you were to ask them for GP webs (SIL or Mec) with a standard 116mm TV rod fitted.

This is the top rate AF upgraded RB race rod fitted to SIL GP webs, which is more than you require (standard TV rod and bearing), however, this goes to show that even this crank would be far less than you mentioned...

Oh big difference! Cheers guys I will have a look at the AF page as it didn't come up in the search results yesterday.

1 thing that I do need to mention and it's important! Here you are not allowed to fit any non original or "non authority approved" parts but saying that if it looks original ...... this is in relation to cylinder kits. Crank will never be seen again so i can fit anything.

If your upgrading from a standard crank with the small flywheel taper,to a GP type crank you will need to change the bearing in the mag housing.
