I think there was a big clue on page 4 of the November issue of Scootering. Read the two specifications side by side. The element of this story that gets my attention is that the TT package seems to be based on a Monza barrel (similar to a TS1), rather than a Super Monza or an RB kit, both of which were intended to be a development step from the previous kits. I can't help but wonder if this is a reflection of DT seeing the original Monza as a lesser ported kit, which serves as a better 'blank canvas' for him to take the porting in the direction that he chooses, rather than being limited by a higher spec' kit that leaves fewer options? Of course, that is me making an assumption already, that DT has done additional tuning to the Monza, whereas for all I know it could be a totally standard kit and he puts the porting where he wants it as a result of using a long stroke crank and packers at one or t'other end (or both)... or neither, or a recessed head, or, or, or....?Knowledge wrote:I think there was a big clue on page 4 of the November issue of Scootering. It'll be interesting to learn more about this 'package', noting that it is not simply a barrel that you then guess the motor configuration for, when details are released.

Hi Adam,
I cannot comment on the specific DT kit however i have had a similar engine built by Pro porting, Monza barrel, 62x110 crank etc.... and the work involved to produce the quoted BHP was quite involved. The Monza barrel does have a similar port layout but the main comment i picked up by PP was the transfers are small in comparison, so the initial work entailed enlarging the transfers, reshaping the port flows (as i watched him work he mentioned the angles of the front transfers were key??). The Monza does have more 'meat' around the base to allow lots of machining.
The casings had to be welded on the mag housing side to allow a good seal, plus the trenching etc..., the next step was to reshape the inlet, the Monza reed block is smaller (although PP did comment this was not necessary but i used a larger TS1 block so i could use the MB inlet) if not the standard manifold would require a small reshaping. The exhaust port was widened and flowed.
The use of the 110 rod allowed the usual port timings to be achieved which i my case was a 3mm packer with 1 x .50mm gasket and 1 x .25mm.
I used a TMX 35 which he did state was too big! so i have reduced to a 30mm VHSH.
So in answer to your point it does require a lot of work and skilled now how to produce the quoted kind of BHP numbers, and i suspect the DT involved more as i am only seeing around 29bhp using a Franspeed race (which is another story as it revs like a monster!)

Thanks for the response Boreham, it sounds as though you've got a very nice motor there.
Interestingly though, this TT Monza spec' may be very different to your PP spec Monza engine as DT has been getting big BHP figures from a number of kits without following the typical methods employed by many respected Lambretta tuners. What I want to know is how he takes a 29 BHP motor like yours and makes it into a 38 BHP motor?!
My home tuned 238 iron road barrel that I tuned ran a JL Race (similar) and put out 28.3 BHP and yes that baby could rev
