i agree, its just a bit of a lottery, i got a lcgb dating certificate that cost 10 pounds, i then had the date of manifacture to get the nova, when scooter was motd i took all my paperwork to rob skipsea and for a very reasonable fee he filled it all out for me and sent it off, i got my logbook back within a week, taxed at the same time and no inspection needed either, he is on facebook or send me a pm and i will give you his mobile, he registers scooters all the time, makes the whole process hassle free, costs more than doing it yourself, but an easy solution.

Yes insure them on the frame number and you can ride to the MOT as long as you have a pre-arranged slot.

Rang the DVLA and they were adamant that insurance was required.

I think this is the bit where the no insurance bit falls down... To pay the required road tax needed to register a vehicle you need insurance, so without the insurance you can't register. Tax exempt vehicles seem to be more successfully registered than taxable vehicles without insurance.

You just tell them you wish to sorn it Jordan rather than tax it and then they will accept it without insurance.

Errrr, honestly, i registered mine and taxed it without insurance, i was suprised. I initially sent the v55 with only the 55 quid, as i intended to sorn straight away. Mate of mine said hed done this. First application rejected as no tax fee, but, included an envelope to fella who dealt with it. Sent it back with 17 quid added...boom, registered!
