Got it. Many thanks.

Well, mine has packed up again. Is this really worth the effort?
I think the pick up needs to go a bit lower but can't see how to do it. It's sitting on a thick plate that presumably has the thread for the screw in it. If I cut that out (somehow) I think it will sit too low, and there's nothing to screw the screw into
Anybody any ideas?

Back when the AF Ducati electronic was common, we would machine the inside face of the mag flange to lower the stator plate. If there is room you could also run a thinner mag flange gasket. You won't gain a lot but it might be enough to get everything to line up just right.
MBD sells gaskets in various thicknesses.

Volts per minute isn't a useful measurement except if you're interested in rate of rise and its impact on emi.EddieStone wrote:It's worse than electrics. It's electro-magnetics!
You have to admit, getting a several thousand volt spark out of a small engine is a miracle of determination over logic. Never mind several thousand per minute.
Joules per second (or power) is a much more useful metric. And the ignition system delivers approximately half of f@@k all horsepower.
There are 2 reasons I say this: firstly I feel like being a smart arse and secondly I'm half pissed and bored.

I meant it generates several thousand volts, several thousand times a minute.
But don't let me stop you showing off!

Another day spent kneeling beside the blooming thing.
Cut the thick plate off the stator under the pickup, having tapped down into the laminates using an M5 tap. Pickup then needed raising by a washer thickness. Seems to be running OK now, in fact it runs very well. Looking forward to seeing if it will beat it's current record of running for two days.

Please keep them crossed! I ran it for about 4 hours today, off to the beach and along a few A roads. Starts faultlessly and runs well. Bit stuttery around 1/4 throttle, so I've concluded that it's rich at low revs and (after a plug chop) a bit lean at high revs. Tried the choke test for high revs and it wasn't happy so maybe a small increase in main jet, and a slight decrease in pilot should sort it.Adam_Winstone wrote:^... sounds like you're getting there

Nearly there.
