I used a big wad of blue tak. Made a ball of it no stator flywheel on and torqued up with the blue tak between the rear plate. removed flywheel and measured the thickness of said blue tak. that told me how far the flywheel went down the taper. even checked it with woodruff key and without, mine was the same. then its measure the height of the pickup from the back plate then the centre of the magnate x over from the flywheel inner edge. bit of a phaff but found around 2 mm difference between my 2 indians and my new heatsink type BGM. I have a spaced under the pick up but its thicker than the locating peg so the pickup could twist. locktight and a load of araldite. It did however sort out my wandering timing at low revs. I took the position of centre of the 2 metal strips of the pickup as the height not the black box if that makes sense.

Just to hijack this thread, but I have the same problem as olliewtf. Split the casings on a working Vespa to change the clutch oil seal, back together and no spark.
Done all the checks as suggested, except for measuring the gap between pickup and the flywheel. I suspect this may be the issue as in my haste, I kept the stator within one of the halves and didn't secure it, so it kept banging around as I faffed with that side of the casing.
So question is, what should the gap be for a PX200 engine and I'll measure it as Monty suggests
Thanks
