and so................lets get back on topic.............

personally i think this is a loverly motor..............
and i hope i can do it justice and rebiuld it to its original spec............although with maybe a few improvements here and there just to re inforce the strength of the casings.........

this motor was i,m sure never built with the intention of it being a "race" motor...........

what it was built for was i,m sure..........is ..a fast /high speed tourer...........with plenty of usable torque............(.hence the use of reed induction/extra cc,s/and a water cooled barrel to keep it reliable and cooling properly............)
and from what i am told by the owner......thats exactly what it has done.....and very well ......for the last 8/9 years or so.............

Hi Dan.. no stress mate. :D It read that you were maybe drooling over the port work which as we all know is minor in its execution when compared to what can be done. I dont want to see you getting too carried away with something that imo isnt there. As i said in my post, Mb's engineering is very good but I wouldnt say that would be in a 'folio' of his work. Mb has been around for many years now and I hope he decides to compete in a class of scooter he is associated with rather than just the auto he has out now. Maybe the motor he will have to produce to compete would feature in this 'folio'?

Beside the water jacket and the groovey welding I'm also not really seeing the stiffy material here.

Okay, 10- 15 years ago I suppose an old Suzi kettle piston may well have been viewed as "exotic" but really, is it that good? Not knocking it but Tony was right if perhaps a little pedantic on his communication.

I think the person we really need to hear more from is Gunny on the performance and how happy he is with the over-all package although I do think a worked crank will benifite the motor no end.

Me? I'd be pleased for him. I'm sure he is a better rider than me. If I was 14, and not self-employed then I'd ride harder. I race to get to work on monday.
The thing is if you wanna compete on level ground then do it on at least a similar machine. Not on a state of the art off the shelf 'works' bike and then compare that with a 40 year old design.
