wandering timing

Doing another fella's Mugello timing yesterday and we had it wander about 10mm's to the right hand side (as viewed) of the BTDC mark and then back to 17 degrees at say a little over tickover and then stayed on the 17 degrees mark up through the rev range (on a BGM stator). I'm presuming this is acceptable ?
