I'm casting my mind back 40 years Victor  but I'm sure the GP points had a double spring? if not, the spring was certain;y stronger and became the standard replacement part for all Series 1/2/3 mainternance replacements. Having said that, we didn't have expansion systems then and didn't get up into the stratospheric revrs that can be attained today.

Edit: Having looked through the photo archive I found a photo of my stator plate and the points are the double spring type.

Having said that, they are also made of red kind of bakelite sort of plastic not known to mankind since the late 60's, indicating they are if not original probably at least 40 years old and could need replacing...

Cheers V - getting ready for another day in the garage :)

Double GP ones are what you need Victor and yes, you can see them through the flywheel window.

Recorded the engine sound (from within my pocket) driving round the neighbourhood yesterday (if I woke anyone on Holloway rd/Camden rd/Seven Sisters rd wake up around 20.40 last night with loud backfires please apologise) yesterday.

The about 10 or so backfires experienced actually blew off the top of my foam filter ;(

The backfires are loud as ~@}~@~ but due to the phone in the pocket recording they sound muffled and not very impressive at all....

The sound can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/victor-arthursso ... ine-sounds (see comments)
