The "scuz" was a reference to individuals/companies not countries. Should any fraud be taking place, its as likely to be "here" as "there". Or both.

Steel making using the open hearth or its modern developments rely on scrap steel in order to work efficiently. Iron ore has a variable yield, but not much is above 30% iron oxide- so 70% dirt.
So you may be right, dodgy steel, but because someone chooses the wrong grade not because of the process by which it is produced. Either out of ignorance or for their own economic benefit.
And because a casual glance can't differentiate, we end up paying for crap bearings.

The bearings in the old american spec servetas used to be marked up made in USSR, i've seen these in a couple of old jet 150s, rumour has it this was done deliberately by the Left wing workforce of the Eibar plant as they knew most of the production was going to the US of A. I suppose if you work in a factory you have to get your giggles somewhere??
