So, must've been the worn/bent layshaft that was causing the problems. As said before, I've never seen, or heard, of this before, and it took three engine splits to work out what was going on!? :?

O well, all sorted now, thanks for everyones help and input.

Cheers,

Tom :)
Sorry Tom,
I forgot to check in on this thread
I have seen one bent layshaft before, lad who was at the Bristol meet last time on a Vega.
He has a Mk1 PX and chipped a tooth at high speeds.
Engine split and new gears put in, but when in neutral and revved it would jump into gear

Split and rechecked, and grabbing at straws stuck the end of the layshaft in a pillar drill and spun it up, bent as a nine bob note :|
New shaft and good as new :)

And Gene (You have PM about something else), thanks for the imput on my smallie.
Since I took the Vespatronic off it (wife didn't like the revvy nature of it, and its her scoot) noise isn't half as bad as it was.
I can live with it now,
And Mr Snatchsniffer, I bult it as per your sticky on the smallie forum.
Shimmed to 0.10 if I remember correctly.
But as I said, its sounds better with a heavier flywheel.

Cheers,
Shaun.
