Nice will I need to cut my frame to get that in :anbrgin;OzOAP wrote:I was just correcting you, (thats prob what you didnt like), by saying that it is possible to cast in high quality, and maybe, for the benefit of the customer, more should have been spent on the manufacturing, rather than having to pay extra to have it 'fettled'
I dont really know why I read these threads anyway. I will never ride a Lamebwetta.
Never met him, but Charley is a very clever lad. Clever enough not to post on forums and get involved in all the hype.
After building race engines for 25 years, and winning championships every year, I have a vague idea on how precise things need to be.tony wrote:You are not that stupid.
And even so.. I still think you still dont quite get how precise a motor needs to be to get good power and spread of power.
This is my day job.
There are 6 of these engines in the world and no workshop manual.
I know it's not a Super Monza but it does have "good power and a good spread of power"
super monza

Oooo.. ooooo.. is the souvenir a wooden spoon??
You don't have to pay an extra £100 for a GT kit that's been hand finished.soosh wrote:

probably not... but then again its not making 30hp is it...
I dont know for sure what the score is with cam lam and these supposed two kits.. give me a while and i will find out..
If you read what i wrote I personally think only one option should be available but I am just someone looking on like you lot with the difference being I know CE.
It maybe that there has been a mix up here and in fact what the so called 'blueprinted' motor actually is a higher power version with a larger carb fitted and the standard one for 100 less is what charley ran at the 6hr.
lets see fellas eh ?

So how much is one of these Porsche Castings? I presume nowadays they are mostly of the squeezeform variety. How much does a set of dies for that run to? Divided by the potential market. Porsche probably make more cars per year than there are active Lammies in Europe. Do the math, I don't think so.
A whole lot of stuff is possible, but practical, viable, feasable at a price folks will pay, well thats where we're at.
Porsche folk often talk in thousands, were we tend to talk in tens
NIce motor BTW.

Why start slagging my bikes off??tony wrote:mmm.... Oz... I was actually working at Jb's when you brought your Ts1 vespa in for a power run.
It promptly seized up. The compression ratio was through the roof If I recall. This was on a sweep inertia dyno too! Not even a brake dyno!
That comp ratio would have been more suited to one of my 135cc motors running on avgas and had a head volume of around 13cc....
Did you tune this? Not very precise was it?
Also.. can I ask seeing as you are a tuner and engine builder.. why did you choose a ts1 kit for your vespa? The lambretta barrel is so restricted to what you could have used.. Did you use it just to say "look lambretta people"? or what?
You recall wrong btw. I dont even remember seeing you there
It seized on the 5th power run due to running to lean. The previous day the gas analizer sniffer packed up, John said he could "jet it off the graph". With hindsight I should have come back another day.
Its still running the same head (not 13cc) that it had on in '06
I fitted a TS cylinder because I wanted to keep is 'scooter' could have done a crosser top end but, my bike, my choice.
Been told a few times that "its a waste of a TS kit"
Makes me chuckle.
Wish I hadn't started the "Porsche" bit.
It was just to say that castings can be precision.
Heads are about 600 euros each and they built about 50 cars of that spec.
Although the Supadupa Monza is £700, how much of that is the actual casting cost?
There was a thread from Ron Moss, (nice bloke), about his costings but I cant find it.
Lets just say a cylinder costs £100 to cast, would paying twice that, get you a better cas ting with less 'dingle berrys' to grind out and correct port angles?
I might ring Charley....
