ive run a v1 mugello since they first came out. bought it from Armandos donkeys years ago, when it got to the stage where i fancied a bit more power and a new pipe i gave it to Ralph saxelby who changed the head and fettled it a bit. its now torquier and although not a power monster its a good rally barrell with a broad range and a good cruising speed. i have to say on balance ive had possibly the best value of any kit ive owned with this and its still running like a swiss watch after 1000's of miles (isle of Elba this may). looked at the new mugello v3 and to be honest i dont know why he's changed it, looks like a bag of problems to me. mark 1 mugello with a 30mm dell'orto and a swift, franspeed pipe and one of those advance retard thingy and youve got 70mph cruising ; where was the gain from splitting the porting???? im too old for all the hassell so i'll keep my mark 1 mugello working out down the gym to stop it getting baggy!!

If I was in the market for another 186 kit I wood try and hunt out Richard Taylors GT kit or pay the extra for a Broady RT, not sure if any GT kits are still avaliable though

Just thought I'd give you an update on my Mugello problem.
After talking to Charlie Edmunds who had a hand in designing the V4 kit I decided to have 1mm removed from the bottom of the cylinder. This solved the problems I had with the boost port and the piston being below the exhaust and transfer ports a BDC.
It was a combination of things that caused the problem, apparently some after market conrods are very slightly short and not all crank case mouths have exactly the same deck height . So a combination of things all within tolarance that made a bad combination and caused the problem.
Now all I need to do is solve my exhaust problem  see my other thread

That's kinda round'a'bout what has worked out for me sort of... :freak: with a 60mm crank and a 110mm yam rod and a 2mm packer on the base, it kinda runs alright, poo down low but it runs.

Sorry mr tino, but you wont get anymore of my money..

Did you get this all sorted?

Yes I got it sorted.
I sent the barrel to Charlie Edmunds who was involved with designing the kit, he took 1mm of the bottom of the bottom and fettled the ports to make sure it was exactly as it should be, not just within tolerance.
I modified the sharks fin on my JL3 so it would fit with no stress and it runs a treat.
Mugello 186 V4
Varitronic (set to 19 degrees at fast tickover)
Phbh 28 carb on Mugello manifold
JL 3 pipe
Mec GP Race Crank
LI 150 gearbox with standard sprockets
Surflex 5 plate clutch

It goes really well but I'm thinking of trying something else, maybe a Phbl 25 and a Clubman/Standard Exhaust
