Is the time of day not holding on these fixable, is it a batch or version thing, or is a case of having to live with it?

It appears that you must run a resistor type spark plug if you are running a battery-less A/C system to make them work correctly. I switched from a B8ES to a BR8ES and it works perfectly now.
Hope this helps.
Cheers mate! I just came on to ask a question about mine freezing and not starting properly and here is (possibly) my answer before I even ask! Gotta love this forum eh?

Thank you guys for posting up your findings. With this info I was able to set my version 1 speedo in one try. Works perfect. Reads speed from the cable accurately, clock stays set and tach is stable.

Can anyone confirm that's it's OK to pick up the rev counter signal from the yellow stator wire (Wassell with battery)?
I've searched this thread, and have found another thread has been linked to:

However, the posts from "Eden", which seem to be the ones which explain about this, are mysteriously missing

Yes.... That's what I've done...
Need to use a resistor spark plug though before it will work (such as NGK B8 RES vs B8 ES)

Thanks Bob - I was just a bit nervous that the unregulated output from the stator (mine's a BGM) might be too high. The SIP instruction manual mentions an operating range of 10 to 12.5 volts, followed by the words "Avoid overvoltage!".
I've got a resistor plug all ready to go in once I'm done

Spoke too soon. The other day it took a few kicks to get going and the clock re-set to 00:00
Not sure if it was a voltage issue from the regulator (small BGM type).

Mine was working perfectly until I connected up a mod charger and put a new denso resistor plug on. It was all over the place. I think I was doing 140 mph the other day. Put the old ngk resistor plug back on and it now seems to work. Well apart from some parts of the digital speedo reading which is intermittent. Wtf. Lol

Been thinking about getting one of these for a while, then you read the thread and think mmmm, I'm not sure. But is this really a fair reflection on this product, by that I mean we "the punter" have no way of knowing how many were sold and more importantly how many people who have them rate them.
this pretty much goes for any product we discuss on here really.
Eight people rate them on here let's say then another two say there's are rubbish, does this mean that for every 10 items sold. 2 of them were of poor quality. I suppose you have to take into account ham fistedness on the part of the buyer to further muddy the waters.
I'm not really sure what my point is.....so il get my coat

Not saying some havent had problems but quite a few don't know how to set them up. They're a great bit of kit. If it don't work send it back.
