Hats off for having a go guys but I just don't get it. Surely that crank is so out of balance now.....gas flow disruption.....having so little web around the big end pin will that not reduce the lubrication.....I dunno :|

Hope it works out for ya though :)

Think cranks are knife edged on cars to reduce drag as it cuts threw oil in sump. As well as reduce revolving mass.

To Dan or Sean,

What tool did you use to cut the webs, looking good and hope it works for you.

Well....we shall see.....we might fall flat on our face with this, maybe all our discusions and thought process in the garage have gone down the wrong path, and maybe we just got carried away....who knows. Its certainly experimental from our perspective, and if it goes wrong......thats that, no big deal.

But you have to push the boundaries, you have to try new things, its important do this to make progress. We've had a lot of planning in this process, and this crank isnt the first one done.....others Sean has done are working.....so lets see. When the engine is built, i will have it dynoed, and i'll GPS it for top speed etc......and if its rough as a badgers arse, we'll know not to do that again, if its neither here nor there then we will not waste time again also....but if its meaty, beaty big and bouncy then we'll be happy.

Lets wait and see......

Anyone know what webs Charlie Edmonds is running on his race crank? I re-read his interview in Scootering last night, and it just says 'modified Tino webs' .......i'd really like to know what mods he's made to his webs? Especially as he's a LPC advocate....... ;)

could you be more specific CT.........with your guess.........?
when you say "grinder"......
for eg...........
belt grinder
cylindrical grinder
bench grinder
surface grinder
tool and cutter grinder (D bit grinder)
jig grinder
angle grinder
grinding wheel..................................

you could also explore various "milling" methods................
or perhaps a combination of milling and grinding techniques............... :D

there is actually no "ONE" tool that can do this..............
many tools /methods are used in fact.................

As you say, it was just a guess ... I'm sure a grindy thing of sorts may have been invloved though... :D :D .... I hope my quip didnt come over badly.

The quality of the workmanship and final item look absolutely top notch in any case whatever tool(s) you employed.. Will look forward to hearing how it works out....

If they produce a smoother running engine as Sean says then surely the original crank must be massively out of balance. ;)

Its got me thinking now........ :?: .........I know that truly balancing a setup is an expensive job........hmmmmmm :D

Its too late for this...

of course your correct matey ...................it is a matter of using "grindy things"............ :D
but there is a bit more to it than that...................
you make it sound so easy......................

Adspeed.........
consider this...........what if balance, and flow is increased ................?
