most folk dont even know what they are though so letting joe public mess about with ignition is not always going to be the best choice for everybody.

....comes complete with lid to seal it up once set. Keeping dust out and fingers and drivers. :)

For me it is a no brainer, all the Augustos plus a load more all in one box. One price of £80.00, should you decide to have additional tuning or seize ya engine because you set your own ignition wrong and go for an RB instead this box will do the lot!! Just get it re dynoed and find the setting thats right.

How do you know what Augusto box to fit, 'me mates got a 6000' ain't really doing it right IMO. so how do you know what setting to use? same issue?

Ps the adjustment is by a pot that clicks cleanly into place, theyre a standard item found in allsorts of things. They ai'nt gonna change setting when ya go over a bump. i cant get rubber encased heated grips variable resistors to work for more than one winter what makes this differant?

Can't understand anyone buying an Augusto when this is about to be honest......seen the Italian jobby and is v interesting but a bit low on details on their website IMO. Pictues of the curves, but it would be nice to see actual figures before purchasing one. :D

there is a chiselspeed add in every post :frog: mmmmm....thanks for the un biased report

(augusto.....almost half the price or just £20 more fitted and dynoed.....at a good reatailer....near you :baddevil: )

Come on, one that includes all the Augustos is £80 and a single Augusto unit is £60ish isn't it? Buy the wrong one and its a waste of £60. Its not rocket science.

I'm not biased, its simply a better product, that comes up on threads on here a lot thats all. I use a lot of dealers for different items, hopefully picking the best components from all over.

I just chose the Cam Lam 6 plate over others (incl. the Chisel item) and I've not been dissapointed........

okay, next question. What are the prices of the Augusto and do you have to dyno these to set them up or can you do it yourself?

I've just read on the other thread about setting these things up. Now it appears people are using them so they can advance their ignitions in the hope of achieving more power lower down. Now ok this is all very well. But first determine where the bike is cruising at.. what rpm are you mainly riding at for prolonged periods.. because if you buy say an augusto 7000 and you are mainly cruising at an rpm that is lower (before the unit retards) you are asking for trouble. Without proper set up , maybe using an egt gauge you may not realise you could be cooking the motor. I personally would use them the other way round.. I would set the timing as per norm and use the unit to give me over rev and lower temps at high rpm.

this is how mine was set up, it was at 19 degrees i then had it set up at 18 degrees ive since made it 17 degrees as in practice i am holding it flat out on motorways. on the road the benafit is that it cleans up your low revs which generaly tends to be boggy caused by the extreme retarded timings we are now using and this shows as an improved torque but really its just fixing what was caused by retarding the ignition.

to answer syds question, you dont have to have them set up on a dyno but the advantages are that you can see exactly what your motor is doing against real speed so as tony says you can then match it to your kit, gearing, pipe and riding style.

I used Replay scooters as I find Chalky and Chirios work good very well priced and they are just very easy people to get on with. They turn the work around very quickly too which in contrast to some other dealers that have your bike or bits for months and years, to ride in at 9 am and ride away at 5pm having everything done and complete as well as being shown every stage of the work (if you want to hang around) is just such a good service. (you need to book it in of course)

although I mock Adpeeds double glazing salesman aproach all of these units are very much the same and if you took them apart then you will find componants that you can buy from a hobby electronics shop. we use a similar device at work to dellay signials in control gear so that two inputs dont come in at the same time as on the kit we use, only one would get recorded.

i dont think ANY are the answers to anyone prayers, they should just be concidered as one of the many componants that add to or change the power delivery and bring the engine up to at least 1970s tecnology.

i think its a risky game to be honest, All of these units in the wrong hands could result in a blown up engine so if in doubt spend the extra £20 and get Replay Scooters to fit it for you.

my reasoning being is that we just cant tell with todays fuel what octane it is. How many motors go bang after fill ups? Sometimes 3 scoots altogether, same garage.. all go pop. Now if the ignition was 'played safe' at higher rpm where you rally boys are likely to be running at then there is half a chance of saving the motor.
I read on another thread that people generally use normal unleaded.. well by retarding the ignition as is now the trend has a very similar effect to using super unleaded fuel on the same original static timing at higher rpm.

tony wrote:The chisel one comes into its own because of its adjustability. All these motors of ours are different and to get the best out of them may need varying levels of advance and retard. This is all relative to the tune/pipe etc. Everything affects the ignition. So you may find one motor likes say 20 degrees off pipe but only 12 on and maybe 10 to get over rev. So with an adjustable unit (albeit fairly limited adjustabilty) you maybe able to find the ideal setup.
Tony (or anyone else), Could you explain this a bit further for a layman without any race knowledge? Can you explain "Off pipe", "on pipe" and "over rev"? I'm currently using an Agusto 6000 on my TS1 and experiencing high temperatures whilst cruising at 60/65mph (6-6500rpm) with 1/4-1/2 throttle. I can back off or accelerate to get around this but it's a pain in the arse watching a guage and adjusting throttle all the bloody time. I've tried jetting to get around this, to no avail. Previously static timed at 16.5 degrees, is there a better way the Agusto could be used to alleviate this heat problem at this rev range/throttle position?
