Your not having a good time are ye matey...Drives ye mad when you cant find the fault, whats your location pgidman.? Might be someone close to you from here can give it a second look over. by the way remove the rear shock and sit scoot in rear mudguard for easier access to head cowl.

Hi Andy, I'm in Derby, as you say drives you mad. Only had the SX200 for about a month and its been a bit of drag so far. Looks the dogs wotsits but I'm getting a bit cheesed off now. Dont mind doing the work but stumped at all angles at the moment. Probably something really simples.

The LT coil is on the stator, it can be tested with a multimeter very easily:

Disconnect all three wires from the stator at the CDI, with the multi meter on a 2K setting, touch the black earth probe to the
mag housing. You then need to take readings from the Green and Red wire.

Green wire should read around 400 or just below
Red (sometimes yellow) wire should read close to 90

As Andy said take the rear shock off , remove the bump stop and rear runners and you'll get access to the cowl, retorque the head at the very least, if there is still poor compression it may be ring/ piston problems.

When was the engine built? Is it fairly new?

If you get stuck I'm not a million miles away from you in Newark and don't mind giving you a hand, I'm by no means an expert but 2 heads are better than one

I would say that the engine was rebuilt about 10 years ago. The engine is painted red but its pealing. It says Chisle Speed on the rear. The head and fins look a bit naff, fins bent etc. I need to invest in a torque wrench. I think I will check the stator plate against the one I took off on the meter. If the stator plate is in the middle of the slots then it should start just be a bit rough as the timing is not spot on is that right? Thanks for the offer of help Andy but Newark is quite some distance from Derby.

Well, after examination by Kevin the expert, it appears that after my attempts to adjust the clutch it didnt have a very good kick due to adjusting incorrectly (sorry didnt tell you about that bit as I didnt think it was connected) The sx then started, for 30secs then the flywheel fell off!!! It appears that the key had sheared on the end of the crankshaft and was loose and so the timing was all over the place. So probably all my fault apart from the sheared key. Now I have to re build it back to original condition as to get it on the trailer I took all 18 mirrors off, back rest, crash bars, florida bars, spare wheel carrier and running boards off. Still I learned alot about SXs...

Oooopss...they do say that chrome won't get you home glad you've identified the problem now...they are as frustrating as women but can also be as pleasurable...sometimes went to work today on my old DL125..slow as fook but in the crisp morning air and sunshine via the seafront it didn't matter cuz it felt grrrrrrrreeeeaaaatttt!!!

Just had the sx back, what a difference all the tweeks have made, must now think about stopping the beast which I didnt worry about before, amazing...

Good news matey...on the braking side get a fettling matey change the back brake cable for one that works (Knowledge one) and think ahead and anticipate them wankers...good scootering...
