For anyone else trying this, B&Q drain cleaner isn't acid based, it doesn't state the ingredients on the bottle, just that it's toxic. It is just caustic soda and at £10.99 bloody expensive and won't touch the rust.
Went to Wicks and spent another £10 for 5 litres of brick cleaner (10% Hydrochloric acid) and tipped that in and agitated the tank at all angles over a period a about 3 hours. That got rid of the majority and also dissolved the fuel tap but I was expecting that tbf.
POR 15 then went in following the excellent large print instructions from Mie Phoenix to the letter.
Will now leave it for several days to dry.

Did you clean the tank out properly with water before you put the sealant in?

Never had a problem with inline filters tbh inc on 500 and 750 multi cylinder and single cylinder 2 strokes. Simply use one that has a decent chamber size.

Good tip, like the sound of that although just wondering how magnetic is rust 8-)
About as magnetic as balsa wood, but lumps of rust usually contain non-oxidised iron particles too and these are what stick to the magnet.

I was amazed how well the brick acid worked.
I found myself setting up a little bath and used it to clean all sorts of nuts and bolts. I then gave them a light covering of grease.
Leave things in it too long though and it dissolves them :o

Had the hose in there for about 5 mins on full blast, then suspended it over the Aga over night. Sealant now installed, it SEEMS very like aluminium silver paint :?
