Very tidy work. Great idea using the towel to hold the acid over the smeared aluminium. Result!

Have tidied as much as I can now with a bit of wd40 and some 800 grit wet and dry - I think this could run again.

It just goes to show how strong the nicosil lining is, from the pic it looks like you didn't lose any of the plating. I had the same melt down as you when the black coating around the petrol tank opening got rubbed off by the cap, ended up in the tank, then into the carb which made my scooter run lean. M25 fast lane nightmare meltdown. Great to see that a cylinder can be brought back from the dead.

Motor is back in the frame and started up third kick. Need to dial in the carb and timing but encouraging so far.
