its a budget scooter mate , I just want a reliable crank that isn't gonna cost the earth

Go with a Tamini then. I've put them in a bunch of motors and have yet to have one fail. From stock to RT225.

Everyone I've gotten in the last 5 years has been dead true out of the box, correct position and size key way with good threads on both ends.
