Riders are now using more "exotic" tyre sizes (100/90, 400-10) and there is more variety in makes and types (wet, race, tour, etc). Some of the tyres have stronger tyre walls than others and, in theory would require less PSI. The 20 front and 30 rear are good guide lines and the wear of the tread pattern will indicate if the pressure is too high or low.
