Also, consider maybe getting a bigger carb for the jl3; seems a waste with a 22mm! but by all means try it

The barrel is a ported stage 4 i got from Harry Barlow, seems pretty good to be honest.
depending on what the customer wants, Harry recomends a scootopia clubman and a phbh25 running on a LI125 with 47/18 (4.83 o/all) for a good road touring engine on his 175 barrels, well thats what he recomended to me.
If your changing your exhaust,as said already i would leave alone untill you have ridden that.
Not sure on running a SH22 with that pipe thou.

I remember that Scootering gave some details of Hippy Jerry's road tune iron motor (?) that was running an expansion (JL3?) and a 22mm carb, which caught my eye at the time as it was an unusual pairing, however, the feature was very complimentary about the bike's performance. As such, don't dismiss the pairing quite yet.

Well the jl3 came today but guess what? That's right great big dent right in the side were you see it most, another one underneath at the front and a very small ping on the end can AND that's not all folks, on the stub that attaches to the barrel only one Spring loop. Not bad for a 345 quid exhaust so apologies to the guy on here who I promised my Scootopia clubman going to be a bit longer now dude, sorry.
Anyway back to the gearing. Does anyone know what length chain I will need for 46x17. 46x18 47x18 etc?

18 x 47 uses 82 links
I've just fitted 16 x 47 with 82 links and a pull down tensioner.
Based on that I'd say buy 82 links and a gt tensioner and you'll have all combinations covered.
That's assuming 16 x 47 is the same as 17 x 46.
There's an excel file on af website that gives you all the combinations but doesn't consider pull down tensioners. Still very useful though.

Pretty sure the stub only has one spring loop. Both springs hook on to it. Had one on my imola motor like this for 2 years and thats the way it came.

Well had the engine apart for other reasons so took the opportunity to fit an 82 link chain, 18 t front sprocket (rear ones a 46 btw) pulled down with a GT chain tensioner.
Felt so much better through the gears went up some good hills which did make it bark a bit but nothing to serious, would probably struggle 2 up though.
