the paper one was in about 16 pieces,

My card has A but paper has A2.
I did my bike test in 2003 when i was 20, at the time, and maybe still, if you were under 21 it was restricted for 2 years before automatically being unrestriced.
Think it was restricted to about 350cc which was and is not an issue.
